On October 5th, the IRIS – Integrative Research Institute for the Science – was officially opened in Berlin Adlershof. The fact that the ceremony only took place two years after it went into operation could not spoil the festive mood. In their opening statements the President of the Humboldt University in Berlin, Prof. Dr. Julia von Blumenthal and Ulrike Gote, Berlin Senator for Science, Health, Nursing and Equal Opportunities, had many words of praise for the building. Prof. Hans Nickl and Prof. Jürgen Rabe, director of the IRIS Adlershof, emphasized the special composition of the building, which certainly represents a unique selling point on the science campus Adlershof, because the research institute was integrated into the former barracks Am Großer Windkanal. The laboratories are a new and connecting element between two blocks of the former barracks, which in turn mainly accommodate the IRIS offices. The IRIS has already received the German Design Award.
