ICONIC AWARDS 2023 – Award for the BSS Laboratory and Research Building
The new building of the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (BSS) has been honored with the ICONIC AWARDS 2023 in the category of Innovative Architecture.

The new construction at ETH Zurich represents a fresh visual landmark for the Schällemätteli Science Campus in Basel, Switzerland. Situated within a complex urban context, it gracefully interfaces with the adjacent university structures. Framed by a light-filled atrium, it establishes a pedestrian link between the street space and the campus. An ideal and flexible spatial concept has been developed for the laboratory zones.
The German Design Council recognizes projects in the fields of urban and architectural design, interior design, brand communication, and product design. An international panel of experts bestows awards on visionary designs that captivate aesthetically and exert a positive ecological and societal influence. These projects not only stand out for their exceptional design but also aim to provide inspiring solutions to contemporary challenges.
The awards ceremony will take place on October 4, 2023, at the BMW Welt in Munich.
