The corner stone of the Laboratory for Automotive Technology – designed by Nickl & Partner Architekten AG – was laid in the grounds of the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Wolfsburg on 24 July 2015.

Prof. Dr Rosemarie Karger, President of Ostfalia University, welcomed 50 guests, including the Lower Saxony Minister for Science and Culture, Dr Gabriele Heinen-Kljajic, Mayor Klaus Mohrs, Prof. Dr Thomas Gänsicke and Renate Müller-Steinweg (Director of State Construction Management, Braunschweig).

The new building will be completed in two years. It has a clear, compact structure in a prominent setting between Schachtweg and Kleiststrasse and fits harmoniously into the urban development context.

“Construction of the new laboratory building for the automotive technology faculty at Ostfalia is a milestone for the university. It will ensure its long-term competitiveness,” according to the minister. “It will be possible to provide practical training for the next generation of scientists in the economy right next door to the VW Group. This fulfils an important state government goal of sustainably consolidating Lower Saxony’s universities of applied sciences as motors ensuring skilled employees.
