One of Mecklenburg–Western Pomerania’s largest construction projects is underway at the Schillingallee campus: the phased transformation of University Medicine Rostock. Over the coming years, a forward-looking medical campus will emerge, uniting research, education and patient care within a cohesive urban framework.

The project begins with a new inpatient building, designed by Nickl & Partner in collaboration with Inros Lackner SE. Spanning approximately 6,800 square metres, it will accommodate nursing care, haematology, oncology and dialysis services. Conceived to support healing while enhancing the day-to-day working environment for healthcare professionals, the design is defined by efficient circulation, clear spatial organisation and the close integration of clinical disciplines.

The State’s commitment to the project was underscored by Minister-President Manuela Schwesig, who personally climbed into an excavator to mark the ceremonial start of construction. With investments amounting to billions of euros, Mecklenburg–Western Pomerania is making a clear commitment to the future of healthcare in northern Germany.
