Shenzhen Children’s Hospital Longhua Campus

The hospital in the megacity represents a new dimension in pediatric medicine in China. With 1,500 beds, state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, and research and teaching areas, it translates the spirit of the metropolis into architecture that combines openness, efficiency, and warmth.

The building structure is divided into a base structure with nursing homes above, connected by a green intermediate level that serves as a public open space. Cutouts at the main entrances form urban squares that organically embed the hospital into the urban space.

With a daily outpatient capacity of around 10,000 patients, the hospital is responding to the increasing demand of a growing urban population and is becoming a model of medical efficiency.

Themed rooms such as the “underwater world” anesthesia area and centers for allergies, sleep medicine, and sports rehabilitation set new standards in patient-oriented care. Cafés, shops, and public areas open the hospital up to the city and turn it into a lively center.
