Rigshospitalet

The extension of the North Wing of Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen interprets the hospital as a city in miniature. Located in the city center, Rigshospitalet is one of the largest workplaces and scientific centers in the country, as well as an important location for the entire urban population.

To reinforce the non-expandable main buildings from the 1970s, a building was developed that comprises clinical functional areas, a patient hotel, administration, and a parking garage.

A central corridor runs through the buildings, opening onto atriums that serve as orientation and communication points, thus representing the symbiosis of city and hospital. The folding design allows daylight into all rooms and meets the requirement that patients be accommodated exclusively in single rooms.
