Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion MPI CEC

Research requires spaces that facilitate exchange and promote concentration. The new MPI CEC building follows this concept and further develops the campus into an open, networked research landscape.

The new buildings blend into the existing structure while also creating an architecturally striking boundary to the site. They house laboratory and experimental areas, workshops, offices, and a glassblowing workshop.

A central atrium connects all levels and allows generous amounts of daylight to flood in through the glass roof. Transparent facades and open floor plans promote visual connections and collaboration between disciplines.

The loose arrangement of the buildings creates a functional, lively campus that views research as a collective process.
