
The construction and renovation of a former barracks building for the Integrative Research Institute for the Sciences has created a research building that combines old and new into a coherent whole. The building acts as a connecting element between two historic existing buildings on the former barracks site, forming a coherent ensemble.

The stepped-back, four-story structure preserves the symmetrical character of the complex and opens onto a courtyard-like entrance area facing Zum Großen Windkanal street.


A glass foyer extends into this forecourt like a transparent hinge, creating an inviting gesture towards the campus. Inside, this openness continues in light-flooded work areas and communicative axes that promote exchange between disciplines.
