Competition Won: Lecture Hall Center at the University of Hamburg
We are thrilled and proud to announce: Our design for the Lecture Hall Center at the University of Hamburg, located in Science City Bahrenfeld, has been awarded First Prize!
The new Lecture Hall Center will be much more than a traditional academic building: it is envisioned as a vibrant meeting place where students, faculty, and guests can come together, exchange ideas, and learn collaboratively. As a defining element of the emerging campus district, the building forms a connecting bridge between the university, the city, and the sciences.
At the heart of the building is an impressive large lecture hall accommodating around 700 people. Its generous dimensions, clear spatial structure, and outstanding acoustics make it not only highly functional but also the architectural centerpiece of the facility. Open learning areas are harmoniously integrated along the galleries surrounding the central atrium—some with direct access to outdoor spaces—highlighting the high functionality and quality of the teaching and learning environments.
A light-filled foyer welcomes visitors, while open spatial sequences, carefully placed sightlines, and inviting areas to gather and linger create orientation, atmosphere, and a distinctive architectural identity. From an urban planning perspective, the Lecture Hall Center marks a striking gateway to Science City along Luruper Chaussee, opening toward the city and giving the campus a modern and welcoming face.
