50 years of AKG – From the health machine to the digital hospital

The publication opens with a joint essay by Hans Nickl and Hans Peter Haid on hospital construction over the last 50 years, which introduces the core of this magnificent anniversary volume – the presentation of 50 hospitals from five decades, which already visually demonstrate the structural change. The work of AKG in the fields of international affairs, knowledge and research and young talent promotion as well as the AKG awards are also embedded in this retrospective.

The 50th anniversary of the Association of Architects for Hospital Construction and Healthcare (Architekten für Krankenhausbau und Gesundheitswesen – AKG) was taken as an opportunity to show not only AKG’s development, but also the considerable change that has taken place in hospital construction. The result is a content-heavy package presenting a full 50 years of dynamic architectural development, which also testifies to the quality of all AKG members.

The publication also features some of our projects, such as the Agatharied Hospital, the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Spital in Vienna and the Heart Centre of the Hamburg-Eppendorf University Hospital.
