Laboratory Excellence Accelerator Penzberg (LEAP)

The Laboratory Excellence Accelerator Penzberg (LEAP) is a new research building on the Roche campus that will serve as a catalyst for innovation and sustainability. The new building will bring together around 800 researchers from 28 buildings in a central, future-oriented working environment.

Two buildings – laboratories in the east, offices in the west – are connected by a 33-meter-high, light-flooded atrium that promotes exchange, transparency, and identity. Open bridges, islands of plants, and visual connections create an architectural landscape of communication. While the office building radiates warmth and openness with its visible wooden construction, the laboratory wing with its precise reinforced concrete skeleton stands for technical excellence.

Location: Penzberg, Germany

Realization: in progress

Client: Roche Holding AG

Photovoltaics, green roofs, and intelligent building control systems reduce CO₂ emissions by two-thirds. LEAP combines modularity, sustainability, and humanity – a research architecture that understands science as a collective process and makes the dialogue between technology, nature, and society visible.
