Le Bâtiment de Recherche Biomédicale BRB

With the Bâtiment de Recherche Biomédicale (BRB), the Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC) is strengthening its role as a pioneer in translational research. Embedded in the Henri-Mondor campus, the BRB forms the new backbone of the campus and facilitates direct exchange between science, practice, and education.

Generous glazing on the ground floor makes the scientific work visible and emphasizes the open character of the building. Organically shaped supports and clear materials such as concrete, metal, and glass lend the architecture both lightness and expressiveness.

The BRB comprises highly specialized laboratories with safety levels L1-L3 and central research units: the BioCrit laboratory for cardiorespiratory biomechanics, the Institute for Vaccine Research, the PolluRisk platform on air pollution and health, SENCODE on aging and chronic diseases, the public health training unit EUR LIVE, and the PUI innovation center in cooperation with the University of Seville.

A special feature is the therapeutic garden, designed by DGJ Paysages, which gently surrounds the building. With medicinal and aromatic plants and sheltered seating areas, it forms a peaceful counterpoint to the high-tech laboratory environment. As a place for relaxation, reflection, and informal encounters, it combines nature, health, and science.
